Obamas Take Four Vacations in One Month.

While many Americans are cutting back on their vacation plans or eliminating them altogether, Barack Obama is setting an aspirational example for all of us. Sure, times are tough, but perhaps we can enjoy a life of leisure vicariously through our betters. On July 16-18, the Obamas enjoyed their first summer vacation in beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine. The idyllic town has long been favorite summer getaway for the rich and powerful going back to the Gilded Age. Truly a resort fit for a king public servant. Anticipating exhaustion from two long weeks in Washington, D.C., Michelle Obama is hosting her...

Summer travelers may discover a world of pain

Skyrocketing airfares, new rules governing flight delays and clogged roads for drivers threaten to make this a summer of discontent for anyone with a yen for travel. With the economy recovering and the employment outlook more secure, people are again plotting summer adventures. They could be in for a rough ride. Demand for air travel appears likely to far outstrip the available supply of airline seats, making this a bad summer for bargain hunters and travelers with short fuses. Travel experts predict most flights will be sold out as families take their vacation getaways during June and July. "Consumers can...

Travel Like a VIP on a Small Budget in Asia

Rarely are currency exchange rates as good for the American dollar as that of Asian countries. In Asia, the American dollar carries a lot of clout and with the recent devaluation of the USD; it is a good thing that these countries offer an excellent trip for so little cost to Americans.

Millions of British Airways passengers are facing Easter holiday chaos after militant union leaders announced a 'cynical' series of crippling strikes. Geology Picture of the Week, Nov. 22-28, 2009: Rooms with a View (reader participation)

Sorry about not putting up an image last week -- circumstances intervened. But I had already come up with this idea, and I think it's appropriate for a holiday (at least in the U.S.) week where there are a lot of travelers. Also, this is a user participation thread. I invite readers to find other examples and post them here. If you've never done that before, if you find an image, you can (in Windows) click on it and get an option to "Copy Image Location". If you do that, then in a response you use HTML code: img src="image...

Obamas Escape to Martha's Vineyard President, Aides Plead for Daughters' Privacy During Trip

OTIS AIR BASE, Mass. (Aug. 23) - Hurricane Bill blew out in time for the Obama family to blow in to Martha's Vineyard for the president's first vacation since taking office. The first family began their vacation Sunday just hours after the National Hurricane Center lifted a tropical storm warning that had included the small island off the Massachusetts coast where the Obamas plan a weeklong break. The hurricane forced the president to delay his departure from Andrews Air Force Base by a few hours to midafternoon. During the flight from Washington to the Coast Guard station at Otis Air...

Somali Cruise - Best Travel Deal Ever!

This is the best idea yet. Be sure and read the whole thing. I was checking cruise lines because I heard the rates are very cheap right now. I found a Somali cruise package that departs from Sawakin (in the Sudan) and docks at Bagamoya (in Tanzania ). The cost is a bit high @ $800 per person double occupancy but I didn’t find that offensive. What I found encouraging and enlightened is that the cruise is encouraging people to bring their ‘High powered weapons’ along on the cruise. If you don’t have your own weapons you can rent them...

The Audacity of the Obamas

Who would have thought that a CEO position would be tiring? And not just any CEO but the President of the United States, the leader of the free world, the Commander in Chief and the Messiah. Apparently Barack Obama had no idea that all of that hard work would actually be just that -- hard work. I suppose he thought the job of POTUS would be just as much fun as the two years he spent on the campaign trail. He must have been under the illusion that the citizens of this great country would swoon over his tax cheating...
